Fourth day: Brussels

Antes que nada me gustaría hacer mención a dos cosas que me llamaron mucho la atención y que olvidé mencionar en entradas anteriores. La primera es el "optimismo", por llamarlo de alguna manera, del que hacen gala en Lovaina. Y digo optimismo porque no se me ocurre otra forma de denominar el poner pistas de voley playa en la plaza de la Biblioteca de la Universidad y organizar un campeonato de varios días en esta ciudad belga, con el buen tiempo que sabemos que tiene xD No obstante, me quito el sombrero ante los organizadores del campeonato, ya que aunque las condiciones climatológicas no son las más apropiadas, el campeonato se celebró, salvo por momentos puntuales en que la lluvia impidió el juego, Además, se veía bastante público pendiente de los partidos y disfrutando de los mismos, tanto los de modalidad masculina como femenina.

La otra cosa que olvidé mencionar fue que, al llegar al Housing Service y ver los ordenadores, el teclado era distinto del QWERTY al que yo al menos estaba acostumbrado. El teclado de los ordenadores de allí es AZERTY, con una distribución distinta de los números y las letras que nos provocó más de un dolor de cabeza a la hora de intentar escribir algo. Supongo que esto será porque para escribir en holandés se hace más rápido con un teclado de este modo. No sé, cosas de belgas... xD

Y nada, ese jueves había quedado con mi primo, que ha estado de Erasmus en Lieja, y ha conseguido hacer las prácticas allí, por lo que vino a conocer Lovaina. Probamos los gofres de allí en un puesto en Grote Markt, y tras llenarnos de chocolate cogimos el tren para echar el día en Bruselas.

El tren tarda unos 40 minutos en llegar a la Estación Central, y lo suyo es comprar un "Go Pass", ya que te da mucha libertad para moverte por bélgica en tren y a un precio más barato. Según tengo entendido son diez viajes al año por 50 euros y en el trayecto puedes subir y bajar las veces que quieras. Cuando vaya en septiembre compraré uno y aprovecharé para viajar y enterarme bien de cómo funciona :P

En Bruselas anduvimos por el centro, hasta la Grand Place, donde está el Ayuntamiento. De ahí fuimos a ver el Manneken Pis, visita obligada si vais a Bruselas, junto a un gofre que nos comimos en una tienda frente a él :)

Seguimos paseando, buscando una cervecería llamada Delirium Tremens, a la que mi primo quería llevarnos. En estas fuimos a comer a un bareto cerca donde pude probar las famosas "Metralletas" belgas, un bocata ENORME que lo ponen abierto y que tenía de todo: lechuga, tomate cebolla, carne, salsa, patatas fritas... Tú pides la carne que quieres y el tipo de salsa y... a zampar :D

Finalmente encontramos la cervecería y he de decir que el sitio está genial. Tienen una amplia carta de cervezas, pero lo suyo es pedir la Delirium Tremens, que da nombre al local y está de muerte :) Además, la música acompaña. Ponen rock en general, desde AC/DC a Nirvana, pasando por algunos temas más clásicos y hasta U2, R.E.M o Rage Against the Machine. Lo dicho, muy recomendable ;)

Y poco más, después de un par de cervezas por la tarde, dejamos a mi primo en un tren de vuelta a Lieja y volvimos a Lovaina a descansar después de todo el día haciendo el guiri por Bruselas :P

Third day: Renting a studio

After have seeing the studios and rooms the day before, I began to be discouraged about not finding anything better and I almost saw myself living in some of them. After going to see a study in the morning, where the woman who rented out didn´t appear and who also didn´t speak English (rare in Leuven), I decided to go to the agency Globiss, just to see what could they show me. Well, a failure again ¬ ¬ This time, the guy who greeted us told us that there were no rooms or studios available at that time, everything was rented and maybe there would be more accomodation in September. Anyway, it seemed that fate, or something like that,  pushed us to spend that year living in Parijstraat, in the study we saw the first day that we arrived in the city.

So, that afternoon, we made an appointment with Rita, the owner, who showed us again the two studios that were available and after forming the conditions of the contract, what was included and what was not, and once we have read carefully same in both English and Dutch, we signed. We already had a place to live when we got in September :) Also, Rita invited us to a yogur at the Llao Llao store in Oude Markt. I did not know, but is a company from Murcia, Spain, which is giving the jump to Europe. And also they have an establishment in Seville. Now I have to find out where it is in my city :P

 The contract was the model that the KU Leuven gives to the owners, which is something that gives you some assurance. You have to sign two copies: one in English, in order to know  know what you are signing, and one in Dutch, which is what really has legal value.

We were so happy to have found accommodation, so we went to have dinner to celebrate it. We ate mussels and French fries, a Belgian standard dinner xD We had dinner at a restaurant called Notre Dame, in Naamsestraat, and the truth is that the mussels were incredible. Really awesome. Served them in the same pot where they were cooked, with celery and onions. After dinner, we went for a beer at the Rock Café in Oude Markt, the bar with heavy metal atmosphere in Leuven and I could finally be in my world again \ m / The place is great, good music and good beer, although somewhat higher prices than in Seville, as is normal beyond our borders, but never mind. As I have said, I liked the site and if everything goes well I will go over there many more times : P

Upon arrival at the hostel I contacted my cousin, who has been as Erasmus student in Liege this year and he is now working in a campsite nearby. We agreed to meet the following day at Leuven, because he did not know the city, and go in the afternoon to eat in Brussels. In the next post tell you as we went that way;)
